Mission & Vision
The mission of the Lake Albert Foundation is:
Promoting sustainable economic and social development of the area north of Lake Albert through training, consultancy and the implementation of projects, mainly focused on regenerative agriculture and landscape restoration.
The vision of the Lake Albert Foundation is:
Sustainably developed and vital landscapes in the West Nile region of Uganda and beyond, in which food production and biodiversity restoration support each other and thereby increase prosperity in the region.
The main goal of the Lake Albert Foundation for the period 2023-2026 is:
To set up or support pilot projects in which local farmers play a central role, to restore the rapidly degrading landscape of the West Nile region through reforestation and regenerative agricultural practices and thereby promote sustainable development of the area.
Definitions of the Lake Albert Foundation:
- By 'sustainable development', the Lake Albert Foundation means: Development in which people and nature can meet their needs now and in the future and in which natural resources are used as efficiently and fairly as possible. The well-being of people and nature is of equal importance in this respect.
- With 'regenerative agriculture', the Lake Albert Foundation means: Continuously increasing the life-sustaining capacity of a place through agricultural practices, making a measurable positive contribution to nature, environment, soil, food security and socio-economic conditions.
- With 'successional agroforestry', the Lake Albert Foundation means: Agricultural practices with a focus on planting trees and shrubs in patterns that mimic and encourage natural succession. This creates a positive interaction between the different plants as well as between plant and soil, resulting in a productive and resilient landscape for people and nature.
