Climate smart agro-innovation
The Lake Albert Foundation works to empower farmers in Uganda and the DRC to become climate-smart and resilient to climate change. Our mission is to reduce poverty and hunger by supporting innovative, agro-ecological practices that improve soil health, produce more nutritious food, and increase incomes. To achieve this the Foundation has worked with various stakeholders such as the local government, farmer communities, private sector, research institutions and civil society organizations.
The Foundation works with farmers to research, develop and implement climate-smart agricultural practices. These practices include composting, sustainable crop rotation, minimal tillage and efficient water use. Research is always conducted to better understand local farmers' challenges and developing agro-ecological strategies to address them, for example by providing technical and/or financial assistance for the establishment of agro-ecological practices.
