Rural income generation

Most rural communities in the area north of Lake Albert are still dependent on subsistence farming, with small additional sales on local markets. The Lake Albert Foundation aims to improve rural livelihoods by supporting them in diversifying and increasing their income. Through years of research and engagement in the area, the Lake Albert Foundation has gained a good understanding of the opportunities and challenges communities are facing.

The Foundation works with local farmers to identify their needs and goals, and then designs and implements projects to support their objectives. This includes providing advice and helping with access to agricultural inputs such as seeds and fertilizer, organising training in sustainable farming techniques, and creating market linkages. In the coming years, the Foundation is also aiming to support local communities in diversifying their income, for example by setting up ecotourism initiatives in the region.
